The Risk Formation Decade (26-35)

You feel young. The data quietly says otherwise. This is when most South Asian adults begin their pre-diabetes drift and the cardiometabolic clock starts ticking.

What this decade is really about

Get baseline numbers

Lipid panel (ApoB if affordable). HbA1c by 25 if BMI ≥23 (ICMR). BP at home, monthly.

Waist over weight

Waist predicts metabolic risk better than BMI in South Asians. Target <90 cm (men), <80 cm (women).

Strength now, not later

Muscle loss begins in the 30s — two sessions a week is non-negotiable.

Sleep-apnoea screen

If you snore with daytime sleepiness — under-diagnosed in 30-something men with growing waists.

Reproductive plan

Know your numbers, vaccinate (HPV catch-up to 45), screen for STIs.

Mental health

This is the burnout window — therapy now protects the next 20 years.

What to skip

  • Influencer cleanses and "detox" products.
  • Generic multivitamins.
  • Testosterone clinics offering TRT without lifestyle work.
